Silhouette shooting in the Western Cape

In this age of gun control laws and anti-gun lobbies, there are still a few opportunities left for a gun owner
to enjoy the use of a firearm. There are several shooting sports bodies where a gun owner can practise the sport of target shooting, in a safe, controlled environment.
Metallic silhouette shooting is one of the only shooting disciplines in which the target reacts to a hit, adding to the enjoyment of the sport. To think it

Metallic silhouette shooting is run in the Western Cape under the auspices of WPMSSA (Western Province Metallic Silhouette Shooting Association),
and there are several clubs where the sport can be practised on a regular basis. Apart from inter-club league shoots, WPMSSA also hosts the
WPMSSA Championships and the WP Classic on an annual basis.

NB: WCSU Range Fees
|

With immediate effect, a WCSU range fee of R30 is now payable at the league shoots, regardless of age.
The league shoot entry form was updated accordingly.

* The first 20 shots of the 2009 WP Classic counts as the first league shoot of 2010.
There will be NO league shoot on 17 July 2010 due to construction work on the range, which is progressing quite well. Other bad news is that our container was broken into, and all the SB and FP targets were stolen. We are in the process of procuring brand new targets.

The WPMSSA fees for 2010 are:
- Joining: WPMSSA R100 and SAMSSA R105
- Senior: R170
- Junior: R100
- Pensioner: R100
- Family: R260
The SAMSSA fees for 2010 are:
- Membership Ordinary – R250
- Membership Family - R330
- Membership Pensioner / student / full time student – R105
- Joining fee - R105 (incl. Under 18)
- All under 18’s Membership fee - R Nil

Province young guns excel
|
The Western Province Junior and U/14 teams once again did well in the SAMSSA National Championships held at BMSSK in Bloemfontein from 30 September to 4 October 2008.
Apart from making a clean sweep in the team events, they also won 20 out of a possible 27 medals in the official SAMSSA events, plus another 5 medals in the fun events.

Although the success can partly be ascribed to a shortage of junior competitors from some of the other provinces, the standard of competition was extremely high, with Wilhelm Nel and Lize Wamback achieving
breakpoints in the small bore handgun aggregate. This certainly bodes well for the future of the sport in Western Province.

2007 EPMSSA Open

Western Province was again well represented at the 2007 EP Open.
After the effort put in last year before the world shoot, the general atmosphere was to just enjoy the shoot without chasing any breakpoints.
|
|
Phillip de Lange did however manage to increase the FP Production Record to 36/40 and the FP Aggregate to 72/80.
The prize-giving was hosted in the tennis club clubhouse. The photo shows all the “bittereinders” that finally managed to drink the bar dry, not a drop of ice or coke was left!
